If you're going to spend time in one of the wildest, most jaw-dropping corners of Texas, you want someone in your corner who actually knows this place. That someone is Jason — co-owner of Paisano Azul Ranch, Big Bend devotee, Marine veteran, retired Air Force loadmaster, Amazon explorer, and genuinely one of the most interesting humans you'll ever meet.

 

Jason didn't stumble into Terlingua. He chose it — the way people who have seen a lot of the world eventually find the one place that makes everything else feel small. After more than a decade of calling the Big Bend region home (and years of coming back before that), he knows these desert roads, canyons, and river bends the way most people know their own backyard.

 

The short version of Jason's résumé reads like an adventure novel:

 

United States Marine — discipline, grit, and a deep respect for wild places. Retired Air Force Loadmaster — the person responsible for getting people and equipment in and out of places most folks never see. Member of the 2012 Amazon River Source-to-Sea Expedition — one of the most demanding river journeys on the planet, from the high Andes all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Avid paddler and multi-year supporter and volunteer of the Texas Water Safari — the world's toughest canoe race, 260 miles down the San Marcos and Guadalupe Rivers. Big Bend local for over 10 years — with many more years as a devoted regular visitor before that.

 

When Jason tells you which trail to hit at sunrise, where to put your kayak in, or how to read the desert sky — he's not reading from a brochure. He's speaking from experience earned the hard way, in some of the most remote places on earth.

 

And then there are the dogs. Jason is a devoted dog lover, full stop — which is exactly why Paisano Azul Ranch is proudly pet-friendly. Some people discover Terlingua and never quite get it out of their system. That was Polli. After 4 years of coming back to this wild, magical corner of West Texas every chance she got, she finally did the sensible thing — she moved here. That was 6 years ago, and she has not looked back once.

 

By trade Polli is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, which means she spent years taking care of the tiniest of humans at their most vulnerable. That same instinct — making sure everyone feels welcomed, comfortable, and genuinely looked after — is exactly what she brings to every guest who walks through the gates of Paisano Azul Ranch.

 

When she is not at the ranch you will find her out on a trail somewhere in Big Bend or paddling the Rio Grande with Jason. She is a firm believer that the best therapy in the world is a good hike, a river, and a sky full of stars.

 

Polli is also a proud grandmother of 3 — which means she knows a thing or two about making sure families of all ages feel right at home here.

 

And the dogs. Oh, the dogs. Polli is a momma of 11 absolutely wonderful dogs, which probably tells you everything you need to know about why Paisano Azul Ranch is unapologetically pet-friendly. Your fur babies are not just tolerated here — they are celebrated. The more the merrier, as far as Polli and Jason are concerned.
