Terlingua Events in October 2026: Music, Motorcycles, and More

Terlingua's biggest October weekend runs October 15 through 18, 2026, when the free Terlingua Music Bash and the Run to Terlingua motorcycle rally land in the Ghost Town at the same time. Picture bikes rumbling in off Highway 118 while a fiddle warms up on the Starlight porch, and somebody you met an hour ago saving you a spot by the stage as the Chisos go pink behind the crowd. That's mid-October out here. Below you'll find every date worth knowing this month, what each event costs (mostly nothing), and how to plan a weekend that gets you into the noise and back out to a quiet fire when you're done.

What's happening in Terlingua in October 2026? The Terlingua Music Bash runs October 15 through 18 with about 60 musicians across five Ghost Town venues, all free. The Run to Terlingua motorcycle rally rides in October 16 through 18, also free. Marathon 2 Marathon follows on October 24, and Día de los Muertos at the Terlingua Cemetery closes out the season at sunset on November 2.

The Terlingua Music Bash, October 15 through 18

This is the 31st year of the Music Bash, four days of live music spread across the Ghost Town and the venues around it. Every show at the Terlingua Music Bash is free, and there is no ticket to buy. Organizers bill it as 60 musicians on five stages in one ghost town, and the lineup runs from Firewater and The Scott Walker Band to Kelli King & The Royal Pains, Beth Lee, and dozens more.

The five venues this year:

  • Starlight Theatre Restaurant & Saloon

  • La Kiva Restaurant & Bar

  • Temple of the Bird

  • Boathouse Bar & Bungalows

  • DB's Rustic Iron BBQ

The weekend doubles as a fundraiser, with a silent auction for the Mark Kneeskern Memorial Art Scholarship for Terlingua students. Cabin 10 is posting set times and schedule updates as they come in, so check their page before you pick which porch to post up on.

Run to Terlingua Motorcycle Rally, October 16 through 18

The same weekend, riders from all over Texas point their bikes toward the Ghost Town for the 7th annual Run to Terlingua, a riders' event built around some of the best roads in the state. Admission is free and all bikers are welcome, with stunt riding and live music on the schedule and La Kiva serving as a hub for the weekend. Free rally camping at La Kiva runs October 16 through 27, so riders can stretch the trip well past the weekend.

If you're riding in, the road is half the reason to come. FM 170 between Terlingua and Presidio, the River Road, follows the Rio Grande through canyon country, and it's a drive people plan a whole half-day around even on four wheels.

The Weekend They Overlap

Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, are the two days both events run at once, and October 16 and 17 will be the busiest nights in Terlingua until Chili Cookoff week in November. Expect fuller parking, longer waits for a table at the Starlight, and a Ghost Town that feels like the whole region showed up, because it did.

A few things make the weekend easier:

  • Get to the Ghost Town before sunset if you want a seat for the evening sets.

  • Pick one or two venues a night instead of trying to hit all five.

  • Leave the evening drive home for after the crowd thins, and take it slow on dark roads.

When you've had your fill of amps and engines, a quiet place to land matters. Paisano Azul Ranch sits on 30 private acres three miles from the Big Bend National Park gate, close enough to be in the middle of the weekend in minutes and far enough that the only sound at night is your own fire. Choose one of nine named campsites with its own fire pit, the Modern House, the BoHo Yurt, or the Aoudad RV. One guest, Will Gray, summed up the location as "Right by town and about as close to the park as you can be without being in it."

Our two-night minimum lines up perfectly with Friday and Saturday of the overlap weekend, so you can catch both nights and still have Sunday morning for the park.

Later in the Month: Marathon 2 Marathon, October 24

About 65 miles north, the town of Marathon hosts M2M on Saturday, October 24. Nearly 500 runners show up in a West Texas town of roughly 420 people for a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K on a Boston-qualifying course. There is no race-day registration for Marathon 2 Marathon, so sign up ahead of time. The finish is at the Marathon Community Center, and the whole town turns out to cheer. Pair it with a few days in the park on either side and the drive pays for itself.

Closing Out the Season: Día de los Muertos and Chili Week

On November 2, Terlingua gathers at sunset at the historic cemetery in the Ghost Town for Día de los Muertos. An altar at the entrance fills with candles, crosses, and photos of loved ones, and graves are decorated with candles, flowers, and offerings. Many of the people there have family buried in that cemetery, so come as a respectful guest. It's one of the most moving evenings of the year in the Big Bend.

The next day, Chili Cookoff week begins, with CASI's Terlingua Championship running November 3 through 7 and the Original Terlingua International Championship Chili Cook-off running November 4 through 7.
